At the Republican National Convention, Ted Cruz went on stage and advised men and women to “Vote your conscience.”
The anti-LGBT Texas Senator refused to endorse Trump at the time, but on Friday Cruz reversed his position. Cruz told his followers that following many months of prayer and searching for his conscience, he decided that he will be voting for Trump in November.
Cruz mentioned two precise reasons why he is now supporting Trump: he is a proud supporter of the #NeverHillary movement and he wants to preserve his word on a statement he made last year that he would help whoever became the Republican nominee.
“Even though I have had places of significant disagreement with our nominee, by any measure Hillary Clinton is wholly unacceptable,” wrote Cruz. The Texas Senator noted six crucial policies that helped him choose to help Trump. He cited the Supreme Court as the most essential explanation that all voters must stand behind Trump. “We are only one justice away from losing our most fundamental rights, and the subsequent president will appoint as several as four new justices,” said Senator Cruz. Cruz also mentioned that for any individual invested in upholding the right to ‘religious liberty,’ they need to vote for Trump.
“We know, without a doubt, that every Clinton appointee would be a left-wing ideologue. Trump, in contrast, has promised to appoint justices ‘in the mold of Scalia,'” mentioned Cruz.
The five other essential policy differences that Cruz cited consist of Obamacare, energy, immigration, national safety, and net freedom.
Trump spoke out in help of ‘religious liberty’ Thursday, when he announced the launch of a Catholic Advisory Group for his campaign.
“Religious liberty is enshrined in the Very first Amendment to the Constitution. It is our initial liberty and supplies the most important protection in that it protects our proper of conscience. Activist judges and executive orders issued by Presidents who have no regard for the Constitution have place these protections in jeopardy. If I am elected president and Congress passes the 1st Amendment Defense Act, I will sign it to safeguard the deeply held religious beliefs of Catholics and the beliefs of Americans of all faiths. The Tiny Sisters of the Poor, or any religious order for that matter, will often have their religious liberty protected on my watch and will not have to face bullying from the government because of their religious beliefs,” wrote Trump, on his site.
Friday Republican presidential nominee Trump announced 10 judges he would nominate for the Supreme Court. Several of the judges on the list have an anti-LGBT record.
